Kasbang: 1st Filipino Designed Tenugui Souvenir Cloth (Hand dyed in Osaka)
By J Travel Finds
April 28, 2025
The Tenugui Hand Dyed Process in Nakani Dyeing Factory in Osaka.
Kasbang is the 1st Filipino Tenugui celebrating Sagada and its coffee culture. The cloth was made for the Manila Coffee festival 2025 by J Travel Finds and HOCUS MNL. Its iconography was supported by the live collaborative input of Sagada coffee farmers, artisans and elders. It was produced by Nakani Dyeing Factory in Osaka to authentically adhere to its chusen method. This process uses natural dyes and showcases a tradtional Tenugui gradiation technique that makes each piece indelible.
In Japan, this versatile cloth is a souvenir to promote local tourism. Inspired by this convention, we made a design to promote our own city of Sagada and preserve its stories. This is especially important as these traditions are currently only known by its aging elders.
Do order this groundbreaking tapestry collaboration between Philippines and Japan through this Link . Only 200 pieces were made for this 1st production.
